Hawaii Free Clinic
Care with Compassion, Give with Joy
HISTORY
The Buddhist Tzu Chi Free Clinic in Hawaii, USA was founded in May 4, 1997. Founders Dr. Fong-Liang Fan, Dr. Roy Chen, Dr. C.D. Lai, Dr. Chao Chen, and Dr. P.K. Cheng founded the clinic in order to serve the uninsured population of the islands. In the beginning, the clinic was open one day a week in the Chinese Cultural Plaza Tzu Chi Office. Clinic hours were from 9:00-11:30 in the morning. After a year, it was changed to two days a week of services. As of May 2000, a portion of the Tzu Chi office was officially designated as Tzu Chi Free Clinic, offering services to the community five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The clinic is currently funded mostly by grants and private donations.
